Hello Autumn

Autumn is officially here and the weather has fallen suitably. I have to say that I am sad that the summer is gone. It has been a busy summer over here and we didn't get to do everything we wanted to do, but thankfully we have the holidays to look forward to. Here's a wrap up of some things we accomplished this summer:

Isabelle had her birthday at a local gymnastic place.
Isabelle has finally started growing again. She is very small for her age and we've gone through the tests to make sure it wasn't an underlying issue. We've calorie packed her like crazy and it didn't really do much, but she's finally started growing on her own. She went from being a size for 4 shoe at the beginning of the year to a size 6 shoe now. Her birthday party was held at a local gym and she enjoyed doing the obstacle course the most. Being so independent, she kept wanting to go back there on her own to do the obstacles.

Making Use Of Our Backyard Space

This year, Andrew and I went nuts and decided to do a ton of things to our house and yard. It's been a few years since we've been in this house and we finally decided that this would be the year that we're finally going to put some personality into our house. First up was the yard and one of its many projects was doing something with our backyard space. Our backyard is fairly small and we really had to be creative when coming up with a usable space. We decided to remove our dead bushes in the space in the back and put in garden boxes. Looking around online, we came across an easy and affordable tutorial HERE on how to make our very own cedar garden boxes.

Tea Party!

I've been a part of a Bunco group for several years now and we just recently started doing themed games. This was my first time hosting since we introduced themes so I was super excited to come up with a theme. A few months before it was even my turn to host, I decided I wanted to do a tea party themed one. How many times does one get to go to a tea party? Not very often.
For the menu, I tried my best to accommodate a soy-free and gluten-free diet. I wanted to keep it semi-tea party-ish so I opted for a chicken salad wreath, fruit, cupcake bites (courtesy of the brilliant Bakerella), strawberry lemonade, and an assortment of teas. Thank goodness I have a large hot water heater that keeps hot water on hand, because I was able to set out an assortment of tea bags and everyone was able to pick and choose their own teas. I was unaware of how many people were fans of tea, so it was really cool to see everyone really embracing the tea party. The hot water heater was empty at the end of the night so that was a good indication that my tea party was a success.

Easter Knot Apron Dress

Last Saturday, we had our very first Easter egg hunt. It was very last minute since we found out about it on Friday. I had no idea that Easter was only a week away. I've had this cute Easter bunny fabric for a couple weeks that I wanted to use for Isabelle's Easter dress so I figured that I had better make her the dress for the egg hunt so she could get a couple of weekends to wear it.

Double Rainbow Cupcakes!

On a whim, I decided to make something for our St. Patrick's Day dinner and these amazing cupcakes were on my mind. A friend of mine posted a blog post about them recently and I thought they would be perfect to make.

I originally wanted to just make them as easy as I could with a store bought cake mix and frosting, but I decided to do them all from scratch instead. The last time I made cupcakes from scratch were for Jadon's birthday party and that was a nightmare. I never thought I'd be so keen to do it again, but that was awhile ago and I wasn't making nearly as many this time around.

New year = New blog template!

So it's been quite awhile since I've been posting on here. It's been a crazy past 6+ months over here. Jadon started kindergarten which was rather painless after the first day where he wouldn't go into the class room for the majority of the time. He's been quite the popular one and he's loving every second of it. Isabelle's vocabulary is booming. She can correctly identify all the letters and their sounds, shapes, colors, and she knows more words than we even know about. Andrew is still working as a software consultant (no, not tech support which he gets asked a lot). I have finally graduated with a B.S. in Psychology with a Human Factors certificate (which I actually need to make sure that I got...).

A new year means a new blog template right? Well, welcome to the new template. Andrew thinks it looks very scrapbook-y, but I think it looks very spring-ish so here's to the abnormally warm winter weather. Hopefully the real spring isn't too far away and that we don't get hit with winter in April. We have yet to go snowboarding or sledding with the abnormally low amount of snow this year, but hopefully we'll be able to go at least once before the season is over. Jadon needs to try out his skiing skills to see what he's been able to retain since last year and Isabelle is old enough to enjoy sledding this year.

The year of the water dragon brings us a lot of new projects. Stay tuned for more details on everything going on with us. Thanks for reading!
