Let’s go over my sewing machines and how they fit into my sewing. I mainly sew clothing and have been actively building a handmade wardrobe for almost a decade. Before that, I got my first sewing machine after having kids and learned to sew while making costumes for my family.

Current lineup:
sewing machine (similar), serger, coverstitch

Sewing Machine
Used for the majority of construction, a good sewing machine is all you really need to make clothing. I upgraded to this a few years ago for the larger throat space and other features geared toward quilters. I mostly appreciate the throat space and don’t use many of the quilting features. It’s the third sewing machine I’ve owned.
My sewing machine: Brother PS700. Similar: Brother PS500.
Current model of my previous sewing machine, and the budget-friendly one I recommend to everyone: Brother CS7000x.

Serger AKA Overlocker
For finishing seams and sewing knit fabrics. It took me a while to muster up the courage to learn how to use this, but it was a game-changer once I did. It makes it easy to sew knits and is used most often to finish seams.
Serger: Brother 1034D

Coverstitch
For hemming knits. (My least used machine.) When I bought this, it was the most expensive of my machines. I love the professional knit finishes it can do.
Coverstitch: Brother 2340CV
