A lot more planning for this trip was done compared to last year. We checked out the schedule when it was released weeks before and were able to figure out where we wanted to go each day. For the outfits, I decided to wear something that coordinated with what I was excited for that day. Back home while I was putting everything together, some of the things I was going to wear seemed maybe a little too much but I failed to remember that Comic-Con is a go big kind of thing. Without going big, you’re just another person in the crowd. It just depends on what you’re going for and understated seemed just fine to me.

With some simple adjustments, I was able to figure out some easy outfits to go with each day. For my Sherlock outfit, I used my Cricut machine to cut out a stencil that I used to print onto a cheap tee from Walmart. I decided to go with a classic Sherlock phrase and Andrew decided on “The game is afoot!” His didn’t turn out too well though because the font I used for his didn’t print well and the exclamation point looked more like a letter i. He wore it still which is great that he decided that my fail was still worth wearing, but I felt so bad for messing that one up and I didn’t have time to redo it. (stenciling tutorial HERE)

Andrew and I are avid Big Bang Theory fans. As massive geeks ourselves, they won us over in the very beginning of the pilot with a calculus joke. For this day, I decided to dress a la Leonard of the Big Bang Theory and go with a female version of his every day attire. I purchased the t-shirt last year at Comic-Con and I had everything else in my closet. The hoodie is an old one of mine that is totally worn out with holes so I cut the sleeves off to avoid overheating and put my American Eagle jacket from years ago over it. Funny enough, both jackets were gifts from Andrew from very early on in our relationship. The shorts were from Nordstrom’s anniversary sale and are my fave. I love them so much that I bought two similar pairs in two different anniversary sales. And of course some classic Converse shoes help round out the Leonard look. (Unfortunately, I didn’t get to wear my Converse because I hurt my toe the first day that required me to wear my flip flops the whole time.) I also made a messenger bag out of last year’s Comic-Con swag bag. The bags are huge and very impractical so I wanted to re-purpose it into something much more useful. I loved how it turned out although I only used it on one day because I prefer having a backpack for better weight distribution. For my next messenger bag attempt, I think I’ll go for a smaller bodied bag with a shorter strap since I’m so petite and this turned out pretty big on me. Andrew’s reaction: “Did you just turn a bag into a bag?” Why yes, yes I did. (messenger bag tutorial HERE.)

I flipped out when I found out there was going to be panels on Thor and Captain America. It was going to follow the massive Warner Brother’s and Hunger Games panel and I vowed to do whatever it took (within reason) to make it in there that day. In the end, I didn’t get in but I did have on my Marvel attire for the day. I bought the Avengers tee at Walmart in the men’s section and I re-sized it to fit me. (re-size tutorial HERE) I also made myself a superhero skirt from fabric I bought at Joann’s. (similar skirt tutorial HERE)
